Rotor-routing reachability is easy, chip-firing reachability is hard

چکیده

Chip-firing and rotor-routing are two well-studied examples of abelian networks. We study the complexity their respective reachability problems. show that problem is decidable in polynomial time, we give a simple characterization when chip-and-rotor configuration reachable from another one. For chip-firing, it has been known P if have class graphs whose period length (for example, Eulerian digraphs). Here general case, chip-firing hard sense were for digraphs, then hierarchy would collapse to NP. encode by adjacency matrix, ribbon structures “succinctly”, only remembering number consecutive parallel edges.

Minimal Reachability is Hard To Approximate

In this note, we consider the problem of choosing which nodes of a linear dynamical system should be actuated so that the state transfer from the system’s initial condition to a given final state is possible. Assuming a standard complexity hypothesis, we show that this problem cannot be efficiently solved or approximated in polynomial, or even quasi-polynomial, time.

Algorithmic Aspects of the Reachability of Conflicting Chip Firing Game

Chip-firing game is a cellular automaton model on finite directed graphs often used to describe the phenomenon of self-organized criticality. Here we investigate a variation of the chip-firing game on a directed acyclic graph G=(V, E). Starting from a given chip configuration, we can fire a vertex v by sending one chip along one of its outgoing edges to the corresponding neighbors if v has at l...

Reachability is in DynFO

We consider the dynamic complexity of some central graph problems such as Reachability and Matching and linear algebraic problems such as Rank and Inverse. As elementary change operations we allow insertion and deletion of edges of a graph and the modification of a single entry in a matrix, and we are interested in the complexity of maintaining a property or query. Our main results are as follo...

Chip-Firing and Rotor-Routing on Directed Graphs

We give a rigorous and self-contained survey of the abelian sandpile model and rotor-router model on finite directed graphs, highlighting the connections between them. We present several intriguing open problems.

Chip-Firing and Rotor-Routing on Z and on Trees

The sandpile group of a graph G is an abelian group whose order is the number of spanning trees of G. We find the decomposition of the sandpile group into cyclic subgroups when G is a regular tree with the leaves are collapsed to a single vertex. This result can be used to understand the behavior of the rotor-router model, a deterministic analogue of random walk studied first by physicists and ...
